"Write with a quill, just like Jane Austen!" pulled visitors into the Bodleian Library's open day in September 2017. Over a thousand guests thronged the glamorous Weston Library in Oxford to meet Jane Austen and her friends. I had a ball! Dressed in my finest Georgian tea-gown I fluttered my fan and sharpened my quills for our esteemed customers - as Austen's governess. And just look at this for a 'WOW!' moment! Happy visitors, happy me.
The sensual feel of quill-nib on hemp paper encouraged all ages to have a go. Poetry, names of sweethearts, declarations, quotations from Jane, all poured from the goose feathers of our participants.
